The Position: We are looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. The Heavy Duty Mechanic at IPC is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all equipment used by the company. During projects, this position is a part of the operations team who are responsible for the safe, technical, and economical execution of the company’s projects in the field.

Compensation includes equitable pay based on experience, benefits plan and health spending account.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the maintenance and service equipment used in direct pipe, microtunnelling, and auger boring
  • Prepare equipment service logs and reports, in collaboration with the Equipment Manager
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment and conduct required repairs
  • Assist with equipment set up, and equipment disassembly during demobilization during projects
  • Participate in tailgate and operations meetings
  • Assist in the training of machinery fitters and other staff in the technical operation and maintenance of specialized equipment
  • Take part in safety inspections
  • Ensure applicable HSE standards set by the client and the company are followed

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation and repair of direct pipe, microtunnelling, and auger boring equipment
  • A demonstrated understanding of tunnelling procedures, using microtunnel boring machines, and auguring
  • Operate hand tools and power tools safely and with skill
  • Interpret and follow instructions from technical manuals and engineering diagrams
  • Determine appropriate testing or troubleshooting procedures to find source of issue
  • Knowledge and experience in working with hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Ability to weld is an asset
  • Basic computer skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

Physical Demand

  • Prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting
  • Use of hands to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls
  • Climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites
  • Working in all weather conditions, inside and outside
  • Ability to work in confined spaces is a requirement for this position

Qualifications

  • Education – Industrial Mechanic, or Millwright certification
  • Experience – Minimum 3-4 years of experience in Mechanics
  • Four (4) + years relevant work experience with Micro-tunneling Machines and/or Direct Pipe technology
  • Relevant experience with Auger Boring and/or Horizontal Directional Drilling
  • Overhead Crane Ticket
  • Forklift ticket

Other Relevant Information

  • This position is assigned to the yard, and occasionally to field locations during operations
  • Extended periods of working away and travel is required in this position
