Description

The Occupational Therapist will provide patient care through the assessment and treatment of inpatients with physical and cognitive impairments, utilizing a variety of skills and resources; including but not limited to splinting, wheelchair assessment and prescription, relevant outcome measures and tests and self-care activities, in order to increase patient functional capacity and independence.

The Occupational Therapist may also assess and treat LWDH Staff with cognitive, mental health, or physical concerns in the return-to-work program administrated by Occupational Health and Safety. The OT may be involved with tasks related to the Occupational Health and Safety program as required which includes but is not limited to: ergonomic evaluations, physical demands analyses, staff education, return to work counselling and support to staff wellness and JOHSC initiatives.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of OT of Ontario
  • Must be a graduate of a certified and accredited University, with a Bachelor or Masters degree in OT
  • Current Certification in BLS and demonstrated ongoing competence through annual re-certification
  • Previous experience in physical medicine preferred
  • Authorizer status for ADP mobility devices preferred
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and windows-based software programs/keyboarding skills
  • Familiarity with all Occupational Therapy equipment and supplies, and ability to coordinate management and maintenance of Occupational Therapy equipment and supplies
  • Independent clinical problem-solving skills
  • Must demonstrate a tactful, empathetic, and caring patient approach, and encourage independence
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload with demonstrated sound judgment, and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform physical Medicine Occupational Therapy assessments and analyses, and to coordinate implementation of prioritized OT interventions utilizing available support staff and students
  • Physically capable of frequent bending, stretching, and lifting and of assisting heavy-needs patients with bed mobility, transfers, ambulation and exercise program, must be able to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Demonstrated reliable attendance record
