POSITION:                            Fleet Technician

DEPARTMENT:                    General Services

 

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and equipment owned and operated by CCWA’s employees: changes oil and filters; tops off, changes, and/or flushes fluids, including anti-freeze, power steering, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc.; rotates, replaces, and/or balances tires; inspects and replaces brake components; checks instrument cluster and makes appropriate adjustments and repairs; lubricates and greases chassis and grease points; checks, diagnoses and repairs lights, windshield, mirrors, and body; and maintains and updates related work orders.

Troubleshoots and diagnoses mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel and A/C system failures: utilizes special diagnostic equipment and software; connects vehicles to equipment to diagnose issues and identify needed repairs; requests and gathers parts and supplies; and performs and tests repairs. 

Welds and fabricates metal parts and tools: builds and alters truck bodies and trailer configurations to meet the different needs. 

Performs field repairs and recovery operations on vehicles and equipment.

Services all new equipment: adds all necessary components required by each department, such as decals, strobe lights, switches, power-inverters, computer stand, fuel master, etc.

Fuels equipment in the field.

Performs annual inspections on all trucks and trailers: ensures compliance with all Department of Transportation regulations.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.

Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains all vehicles and equipment, two-post lift,  cutting torch, welder,  drill press,  band saw stand- alone press, air compressor, pressure washer, pneumatic impact, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, shop tools, diagnostic tools and equipment, overhead crane and other tools and equipment.

Communicates with supervisor, other CCWA employees, vendors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Additional Functions:

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by three years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s). Must possess and maintain the following additional certifications or endorsements: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE); and Hazardous Materials.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

 

PAYGRADE:               15H (starts at $20.387/hour)
