POSITION: MANAGER, RISK & POLICY

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, the Manager of Risk & Policy will be responsible for the strategic planning, implementation and effectiveness of the comprehensive Risk Management and Policy Management Programs across the Hospital, linking the plans with the organizational mission, vision and values as well as the senior leadership teams’ goals and objectives. These programs are directed at the identification, analysis, and implementation of initiatives to improve systems of healthcare.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clinical/Corporate Enterprise Risk Management
    • Collaborate with the leadership team for the planning, implementation, evaluation and management of an integrated Clinical/Corporate Enterprise Risk Management program.
    • Identify assess and analyze potential and actual organizational and patient/staff risk exposures.
    • Develop, implement and evaluate strategies to address risk exposures in accordance with defined risk tolerance levels.
    • Organize educational programs on risk management and awareness of risk practices.
    • Mentor and support staff and affiliates as it relates to Risk Management.
    • Conduct regular proactive and reactive risk analysis and organizational clinical risk evaluations to ensure identified risks are mitigated, reduced or eliminated.
  • Legal/Insurance Claims Management
    • Oversee STEGH corporate legal claims management program, and functions as the key contact between STEGH and its corporate legal counsel.
    • Responsible for the review and interpretation of legal documents and advising on required actions, as well as, preparing legal correspondence for both STEGH corporate legal counsel and other external agencies.
    • Provide consultation and interpretation of legislative obligations and facilitates the release of information to support the litigation process.
  • Policies
    • Conduct major policy and legislative reviews and make recommendations
    • Develops and implements policy decisions and responds to inquiries on policy.
    • Liaises with senior leadership and internal stakeholders on policy issues, updates, and revisions. 
    • Provide oversight and management of the Hospitals policy management system
  • Adverse Event Reporting and Management
    • Provide consultation and facilitation on adverse event analysis and management.
    • Review and initiate follow-up on all reported adverse events.
    • Verifies accuracy of reporting, ensures disclosures have taken place (as required), and determines the need for in depth analysis.
    • Provide oversight and management of the Hospitals adverse event reporting system

 

HOURS:
The successful candidate will work Monday – Friday (37.5 hours weekly) with a willingness to adjust their schedule to meet the needs of the organization.

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Canadian Risk Management or OHA Risk Management Certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a Hospital setting with a thorough understanding of hospital service delivery including risk management and policy development.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with confidential information and when dealing with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Expert speaking, writing and consulting skills.
  • Ability to work independently to meet critical and competing deadlines to produce high quality work in short timelines.
  • Experience in a LEAN environment with a Lean Six Sigma Belt in Healthcare or higher would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated competency in research and analysis including the ability to identify and explain complex issues.
  • Demonstrated evidence-based decision making, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort with conflict management, crisis and complex issue resolution. Demonstrated alternate dispute resolution, negotiation & mediation skills. Ability to relate to people in a compassionate manner.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to demonstrate STEGH’s values and code of conduct in all interactions in their role.
