Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to coordinate the planning, implementation and maintenance of all safety and risk management programs. Accountable for the highest possible degree of safety for employees and risk mitigation for CCWA.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Collaborates with management to develop, prepare and implement safety policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local safety laws, regulations and codes including but not limited to CDL, DOT, Hazmat, and Safety Sensitive. 

Coordinates, develops and delivers safety related training to ensure uniform application of safety rules.  Determines frequency of required trainings. Partners with outside agencies and industry experts to assist in delivery of training. 

Serves as chair of the Peer Safety Committee by conducting monthly safety meetings, investigating and identifying root causes of incidents, and performing safety inspections of CCWA facilities. In conjunction with the HR/Risk Manager, recommends rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote the safe conduct of all work practices.

Responsible for receiving and reviewing all incident/accident related documents. Submits claims (injured worker reports, motor vehicle reports, liability related claims, etc.) to insurance companies and/or third party administrators. In conjunction with HR/Risk Manager, supports all aspects of the claim process from intake and investigating through claim closure.  Assist in the investigation of all liability claims, included but not limited to, workers’ compensation, employment practices, auto, property and general liability.

Manages and recommends updates to CCWA’s drug testing requirements to include pre-employment assessments, post-accident, safety sensitive, and random drug testing programs.  Ensures these programs are compliant with state and federal regulations from the DOT, CDL and other applicable rules and regulations. Manages the compliance of the safe driving program to include MVR reviews.

Work with brokers and insurers to identify, design, implement and monitor effective safety and loss prevention programs. Works with various departments to identify potential risk exposures.  In conjunction with vendor partners, identifies loss control initiatives and recommendations.

This position is responsible for assisting in other areas of HR as needed and performing other duties as required.

This position may be required to be on call 24/7.  This position is required to respond to all emergency calls, during regular hours or after regular hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED; 3 years of experience in safety, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain OSHA 30 certification within 12 months of hire.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must have experience with safety. Must be able to problem-solve, communicate effectively, and make recommendations. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position
