Job Overview


The Payroll & Benefits Specialist administers the activities relating to the corporate payroll, benefits and HRIS processing including implementing and monitoring of payroll processes including audit and control procedures to ensure that all wages and taxes are correct.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer full cycle bi-weekly US and/or CDN payroll
  • Responsible for all aspects of payroll processing up to T4 completion and filing for CDN employees
  • Administer and communicate benefit programs to employees
  • Employee benefits enrolment and ongoing administration
  • Respond to questions from employees regarding pay, benefits plans and retirement plans
  • Prepare month-end payroll reporting requirements
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Collaborate with different departments to gather data and conduct research necessary to manage all benefits programs both in Canada and USA
  • Review and maintain communication materials, to keep employees and management updated on plan changes and amendments
  • Work closely with external consultants, brokers and providers to ensure compliance and mitigate risk
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities whenever possible

 

 

Qualifications

  • CPA Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification and/or US Payroll Certification
  • US payroll experience preferred
  • 5 years of hands-on Canadian & US payroll
  •  Good knowledge of Canadian taxation & employment standards legislation
  •  Knowledge of/experience with United States benefits legislation (Affordable Care Act) would be considered a definite asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Dayforce an asset
  • Good knowledge of USA employment laws• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, spreadsheet creation and updates
  • Energetic and enthusiastic
  • Excellent judgment and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to self-manage daily duties and time in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to organize and follow-up multiple tasks/details with accuracy and timeliness
