POSITION: Registered Nurse - Regular Part Time B 

UNIT: Integrated Stroke Unit

SALARY: $34.24 - $49.02

 

POSITION: 

The Integrated Stroke Unit (ISU) is a specialized unit on D wing of CCC, which is dedicated to providing acute and rehabilitative care for all types of stroke patients. The patient will remain on the same unit, in the same bed, surrounded by health team members with expertise in stroke care to help them through their journey.

 

  • The RN is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with stroke patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgment, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care based on evidence and Stroke Best Practice standards.
  • The RN provides leadership, coordination and functions as a support to clinical colleagues in problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and activities.
  • Acts as a resource to nursing colleagues in the provision of safe nursing care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice.
  • Act as a mentor to novice staff members facilitating patient orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s condition.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues internal and external to the unit to facilitate safe and timely patient flow
  • Maintains standardized work as required related to LEAN quality improvement initiatives.
  • Must have flexibility to train and cover in our Secondary Stroke Prevention Clinic as needed

 

HOURS:

Must be available for 11.25 and 7.5 hour tours, and other tours as assigned by the hospital, 24 hour rotation, seven (7) days per week.  In addition, the successful candidate must be available on a pre-determined basis for 22.5 hours per month.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ clinical experience providing care to acute and/or rehabilitation stroke patients within the last three (3) years;
  • An energetic, compassionate person who demonstrates an interest in working with stroke patients.
  • Certified medication administration including an approved medication administration course within the last five (5) years, and successful completion of the medication administration orientation process
  • Proven assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills related to medical nursing with the ability to assess changing situations and respond accordingly;
  • Proven ability to work independently, utilizing effective organizational skills in a changing environment; ability to work with the multi-disciplinary team is also required.
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Electronic Patient Record)
  • Excellent performance and attendance record.

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Note – Preference will be given to candidates that already possess the training listed below:

  • NIHSS Certification
  • Alpha FIM Certification
  • Apex Hemispheres
