The senior microbiologist supports supervisor and manager on routine microbiology lab workload, technical improvement, and coordination of intra-team collaboration.   

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform routine microbiology testing, validation testing, environmental monitoring, as assigned.
• Provide training and technical support to microbiology lab team. Evaluate test results and ensure samples are processed efficiently, accurately and safely. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Take initiatives to design and implement improvement plans.
• Review test data, compile results, process and archive relevant documents.
• Provide technical support in OOS result and deviation investigations and the ensuing corrective and preventative actions.  
• Oversee quality and inventory control of media, reagents, test kits and other lab accessories.
• Participate in the development and enforcement of laboratory safety and security policies.
• Manage lab waste disposal. Maintain SDS pertinent to microbiology lab reagents and media.
• Provide technical support in regulatory, client and internal inspections.
• Perform other lab duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

• B.S. degree in microbiology, at a minimum.
• Thorough understanding of aseptic techniques, media preparation and culture maintenance.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in microbiology test of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, or food.
• Knowledge of current compendia and ISO standards pertinent to microbiology tests.
• Capability of working independently, collaboratively, and under pressure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
• Experience in cosmetics, pharmaceutical or food processing environment is an asset.
