We are your Maritime John Deere Dealership with 15 locations to serve you, and we are looking for a skilled, dedicated person to fill the position of Health & Safety Assistant at our Truro, NS location.

 

Purpose:

Provide assistance to the Human Resource Manager in the ongoing development and maintenance of our  health and safety program.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct physical safety inspections of all 7 Nova Scotia locations (may expand to other provinces in the future) & prepare inspection/audit reports for HR Manager
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Hazard Assessments and Safe Work Practices
  • Assist and track corporate safety training, including expiration dates across all platforms
  • Research safety legislation to ensure compliance in NB, NS and PEI
  • Help train managers and safety reps in WCB injury reports and procedures and assist with filing reports when needed.
  • Provide administrative and organizational support to all managers, supervisors, and safety reps with a focus on consistency across all locations when needed
  • Help maintain and enforce the company H&S management system
  • Ensure SDS sheets are always current
  • Ensure all branch inspections and meetings are held per schedule
  • Ensure the security and confidentially of all Corporate H&S information.
  • Assist in promoting incident and accident prevention in the workplace
  • Compile monthly statistics
  • Maintain 1st aid kits in NS locations

 

Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline
  • 1-3 years experience in a Health & Safety role or equivalent experience
  • Skills in procedure development, risk assessments, database management etc.
  • Must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer literacy is required
  • Manage own workload to ensure timely processing and meet deadlines on all assignments.
  • Be respectful and demonstrate sound work ethics.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability and maturity to work proactively and handle confidential matters in a discreet manner
  • Must possess a valid, clean driver’s license as travel will be required with your own vehicle. Mileage and all expenses will be paid.
  • Overnight stays in other locations may be required.
