Primary Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the incumbent is responsible for assisting the Management Team in areas related to health, safety, and the environment.  To provide the teams with information and direction relating to all areas of health, safety, and the environment. To develop training material and programs which support the team concept and provide training to team members in a variety of skills and programs, particularly safety.

 

Major Responsibilities of Position:

  • Safety: Research, write, maintain and communicate to employees the safety policies and procedures through implementation and management of the Health & Safety program at MLTI.
  • Conduct regular safety audits (safety awareness & hazard identification).
  • Co-ordinate H&S audits, PPE audits, Environmental audits, external supplier audits, wellness audits, ISO audits and ERT audits.
  • Continuously improve upon and maintain accident investigation data.  First Aid and Medical Aid tracking system and create any reports as required.
  • Complete and coordinate all WSIB related activities and manage all employee Return to Work programs.
  • As required be part of design of new equipment and programs and ensure that New Equipment Sign Offs and Pre-start Safety documents are reviewed.
  • Maintaining and monitoring MSDS management system.
  • Assist in writing, modifying and verifying Management System documents and procedures, and ISO 14001 documents / procedures, as related to safety.
  • Assist with the evaluation of the safety training program and its’ effectiveness.
  • Co-ordinate safety training throughout all Strathroy facilities, ensuring all employees receive appropriate safety training.
  • Environmental Management: Ongoing review and updating of EMS ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and laws and conformance to the ISO 14001 standard.
  • Assist in the budget review process to ensure appropriate funds are requested for environmental compliance and continual improvements.
  • Completing auditing activities and EMS 400-014 Corrective Action Notices as required.
  • Completing and maintaining Risk Evaluation Sheets.
  • Lead the Environmental Management Team: responsible for ensuring continuous improvement by reviewing objectives and targets and internal/external customer concerns; reviewing audit results and EMS programs elements and establishing action items and recommendations

 

 

Skills, Experience, and Education

  • Occupational Health & Safety certification
  • Post-secondary education in relevant environmental field (e.g. Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Sustainability, Environmental Technology etc.).
  • 3+ years’ experience Health, Safety and Environmental Fields.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Health & Safety Act, and related Regulations.
  • Working Knowledge and/or relevant training in Environmental Legislation (Provincial, Federal)
  • Health & Safety Professional designation ( i.e. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)
  • Certified Environmental Management System Lead Auditor [EMSLA Designation] or actively working toward designation (e.g. recognized Lead Auditor Course completed).
  • Auditor training for ISO 14000 or 45001 system
  • Working Knowledge and/or relative training in Environmental legislation
  • Industrial Hygiene knowledge and training
