Experienced Excavator Operator (water & sewer installation)

We are on the City of Calgary Master Indemnified Contractor list, and hold a SECOR Certification from the Alberta Construction Safety Association. We are currently seeking an experienced water and sewer installation Excavator Operator. The successful candidate has experience working in narrow trenches which may contain other utilities or fiber optic lines. In addition, care will have to be taken with regard to overhead utilities, trees, and other potential obstacles. The successful candidate will have pride in their work, which will be reflected as part of the continuing success of the company. Your responsibilities will include:

• Operation of a 130 John Deere, a 180 John Deere and a Cat 420F excavator.
• Safe and efficient excavation around utilities and mains, trench grading, backfilling, and dump truck loading
• Complete daily preventative maintenance checks on equipment
• Read grade plans and understands grade stakes
• Assist pipe layer, laborer, and foreman on site
• Take and follow direction to help sustain a positive work environment
• Other duties as assigned, including attending and participating in tool box safety meetings
• Maintain a safe work site, adhere to safe work practices, and safe job procedures
• Comply with established company policies and procedures, and applicable Occupational Health and Safety regulations

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience as an underground utility service Excavator Operator
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License, and have own transportation to get to/from the job site.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment operations and site activities
• Self-motivated and able to work independently, or as part of a team
• Strong work ethic which allows you to take pride in doing a job efficiently and effectively
• Ability to take responsibility for performing the tasks required for the job
• Works well under pressure and with time constraints
• Ability to work long hours with some weekends and overtime in all types of outdoor environments and weather conditions
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge of hand signals
• Must have CSA approved safety boots
